The Nintendo Switch persists to be proof that specs aren’t always king in the world of video games. While we wish that the Switch was more powerful, Nintendo continues to give us reassurance that in spite of hardware limitations, developers can produce amazing games that can only be found on the Nintendo Switch. That is why we think that Nintendo will remain competitive, especially with these ten new and upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive games that will keep the Nintendo Switch afloat in this console generation.
10. Metroid Prime 4

Okay, let’s start this list with one of the most highly-anticipated Nintendo sequels of all time, one that we’ve been waiting for five years now. Metroid Prime 4 was first revealed back in E3 2017, and we’re still waiting. Latest reports say that Metroid Prime 4 is still in development this year, but there are also rumors that say a release date announce date is also imminent. We don’t see it coming out this year anymore at this rate, but hopefully, we finally get to continue Samus’ story in 2023.
9. FRONT MISSION 2 Remake

Actually, there is a trio of FRONT MISSION Remakes coming to the Nintendo Switch as exclusive games to the console, with the first one already out by now. FRONT MISSION 2: Remake is coming out sometime in 2023, with FRONT MISSION 3: Remake following it to complete the trilogy. The trio is coming out regardless of how the first two games perform commercially, it appears, but there’s no reason for these games to be snubbed by Nintendo Switch owners. After all, this upcoming Switch game is a classic tactical RPG game, now remade for more modern audiences and without all the loading issues that we used to have back in the day. If you liked games like Into the Breach, then this game will surely be up your alley.
8. The Perfect Pencil

A surrealist Metroidvania that draws inspiration from genre staples Hollow Knight and Celeste, The Perfect Pencil is a surrealist adventure full of metaphors and meaning. Studio Cima advertises surprising exploration, complex choices, and allegorical characters, all intertwined in a hand-drawn 2D action-platformer.
Engaging and unusual interactions, challenging choices, surprising exploration and fast paced combat will keep the gameplay interesting throughout whilst the narrative reveals itself. This game has its own language full of humour and allegories which it uses alongside immersive gameplay, to speak intimately to the player.
7. Metal Slug Tactics

A tactical RPG with roguelike elements using the Metal Slug brand and world, Metal Slug Tactics is one game that is surprisingly way under too many people’s radars. The game uses a graphical style similar to the aesthetics of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Advance Wars, so the game having a turn-based tactics gameplay does not feel out of place, even if its gameplay is so far away from what Metal Slug fans usually play. But here it is, Metal Slug Tactics, which we think will be a sleeper hit this year.

Pikmin is one of those bizarre games that are exclusive to Nintendo consoles, and have always been a cult classic, but never garnered enough attention to break it into the mainstream. The addition of the original game’s protagonist, Captain Olimar, to the Super Smash Bros. franchise brought more attention to Pikmin, and eventually demand a new Pikmin grew. Now, it looks like Pikmin is ready to become a mainstream title, which will bring Pikmin 4 to the Nintendo Switch in 2023.

This fantasy mystery adventure game follows the trainee detective Yuma, who is haunted by the spirit Shinigami. In this game, Spike Chunsoft wanted to develop a game that will be different from Danganropa, and wanted a game where they can explore dark fantasy elements ala Tim Burton. The game will also feature 3D models all throughout, as opposed to Danganropa’s mix of 2D and 3D.
3. Pepper Grinder

What if the drill mechanics in Ori & The Will of the Wisp becomes the primary mechanic of an entire Metroidvania game? And to add to that, make it give off a whole lot of Drill Dozer vibes, and you’ve got yourself a game that will definitely *ahem* drill its niche. Pepper Grinder has players drilling through softer soil to create a path past enemies and obstacles.
Pepper Grinder follows two eponymous characters: Pepper, a seafaring soul with a passion for prospecting, and Grinder, her super-powered drilling device. Shipwrecked and robbed of her treasure, Pepper must spin up her trusty drill Grinder to reclaim what the mischievous Narlings stole. But it’s never that easy as mysterious figures begin to emerge from the shadows.

Lead your armies to victory through strategic unit placement and base capture. Choose from the available COs and repel the invasion of the Black Hole in this classic turn-based strategy game.

The Breath of the Wild sequel finally got a name and it’s called Tears of the Kingdom. The long-awaited sequel is coming out in mid-2023 and as a Nintendo Switch exclusive game as expected, but it doesn’t mean it’s too early for us to include it here. Undoubtedly, the latest Legend of Zelda game will be the most highly anticipated exclusive game for the Nintendo Switch for the foreseeable future. Tears of the Kingdom is hotly anticipated mostly because Breath of the Wild was a revolutionary game that inspired many other games, even including the best-selling Elden Ring. Tears of the Kingdom is a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, following its story after Zelda and Link defeated Calamity Ganon. Breath of the Wild already featured a vast and wide open world for players to explore, and Tears of the Kingdom appears to add more verticality to that, featuring sky cities and flying vehicles and platforms. An even bigger Breath of the Wild with new features AND Zelda being more present all across the game? Count me in.
