It wasn’t easy, but LSU basketball managed to beat Virginia Tech on Friday evening and advance to the Women’s National Championship. In the process, the Tigers put themselves in the March Madness record books.
Kim Mulkey’s squad was trailing by 12 points at the end of the third quarter and ultimately won 79-72. That was the second-largest comeback in Final Four history over the last decade. Via Alexa Philippou:

Not only did the team make history, but so did star player Angel Reese. Just take a look at this:

Reese finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds on 11 for 19 shooting against the Hokies, also notching three steals. Guard Alexis Morris erupted for 27 points, too. While both teams struggled to shoot the rock with any consistency, LSU absolutely bodied Virginia Tech down low, scoring 54 of their points in the paint. Yes, you read that correctly. Their post game was the difference-maker. They forced 18 turnovers as well which translated into 22 points.
The Tigers have never played in a title game before. However, the program was close back in the early 2000s. LSU is just the fifth No. 3 seed to make the National Championship too and would become the second ever to win it since North Carolina took home the grand prize in 1994.
You’ve got to love the guts LSU showed in Dallas and after overcoming a ton of adversity in the Final Four, Reese and Co. will be rolling into Sunday with the utmost confidence. They will face either Iowa or South Carolina for a chance to win it all.
